After 80 years of providing support for the most vulnerable people in Portsmouth and helping around 300,000 residents, our future is now uncertain.
We receive no funding for service delivery from Portsmouth City Council and we currently have no unrestricted income at all. Already we have had to close our Specialist Welfare Benefits service due to cuts to legal aid. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to raise sufficient funding to continue that much needed service. This means that it will be much harder for people to get through the appeals process when their benefit entitlement is incorrectly decided. This will be particularly harsh for thousands of sick and disabled people who are wrongly assessed as being fit for work.
Although many of our advisers are trained volunteers who give their time freely, we have to pay for training, travel expenses, supervision and office overheads.
Tough economic times; spiralling living costs; and punitive, on-going welfare reforms mean that the residents of Portsmouth need our assistance more than ever.
In order for us to continue our services, we need your help.
Here are some examples of how your donations could help us:
£10 would help towards our ever increasing postage costs.
£20 would cover the cost of volunteering refreshments (tea/coffee) for 1 month.
£30 would fund a holistic generalist advice session for 1 client.
£50 would fund a training course for a volunteer adviser.
£380 would pay our telephone costs for 1 month.
